The mother of all rebirths.

A Mumoir is a funny, filthy and unexpectedly tender solo show about early motherhood, identity crisis and the search to reclaim joy.

Set against the loopy backdrop of Los Angeles, A Mumoir follows Suz, a British first-time mum in the aftermath of birth, grappling with a vicious inner critic who delights in her epic fails.

As Suz tries to navigate the demands of motherhood, she is propelled through a series of increasingly surreal and painfully funny encounters: from a toddler tripping on mushroom chocolate, to the the body horrors of postpartum sex and the indignities of contracting pinworms. Suz begins to claw her way back to herself via an unexpected foray into a DJ workshop that reconnects her with a playful, creative part of herself she thought she had lost.

Blending real-life storytelling, character comedy and surreal absurdity, the show explores anxiety, identity, ambition, self-acceptance and the unexpected places joy can return from.

The show was developed through multiple previews in Los Angeles before a sell-out run at Hollywood Fringe 2025, where it received a StageCrafts Select Award nomination. It has been developed in the UK into a tighter 55 minute version through continued live performance.

The show contains adult themes and humour relating to early motherhood and is suitable for audiences aged 16+.

Development & Previous Performances

Los Angeles previews at The Elysian Theater and Backyard Comedy Series, followed by a sell-out run at Hollywood Fringe Festival 2025.

Following dramaturgical development with award-winning theatre-maker Haley McGee, A Mumoir was reworked into a 55 minute performance at The Free Association in July ‘26. It will return to London for a WIP run this autumn ahead of Edinburgh ‘27.

Why A Mumoir excites me?

What excites me most about A Mumoir is the chance to share something deeply personal that I’ve discovered is far from unique. So many parents — particularly mothers — recognise the feeling of putting parts of themselves, their creativity and their dreams on hold while they try to be everything everyone else needs them to be.

But you don’t have to be a parent to connect with this story. You just have to be a person with a dream, an idea or a version of yourself you’ve been too afraid to pursue because your inner critic keeps telling you why you shouldn’t.

That’s what makes the project so hopeful for me. A Mumoir is essentially the story of finding my way back to myself after becoming a Mum — and then having the audacity to put a show on about it. I’ve been amazed by how many people who have seen it have told me that it made them want to take a leap of their own.

I love the idea that a silly, filthy, chaotic show about motherhood might send people out of the theatre feeling a little braver about their own lives. Whatever shit-show life throws at you, it’s never too late to go after the things that make you feel most like yourself.
